Janet has spent over thirty years of her adult life working and playing in Alaska. As an engineer who chose to build her career and life in the Last Frontier, Janet has been deeply woven into the fabric of the state—serving on the Chugach Electric Board of Directors and as Executive Director of the Alaska Energy Authority.
Alaska isn't just where she lives—it's where she thrives, and anyone who knows Janet knows of her creative side that's as boundless as the landscape itself. It was here, growing up on the Hillside, that Janet raised her daughter Laura and two sons, teaching them resilience and boldness—qualities that only Alaska can truly teach.
Together with Laura, she has crossed the finish line of the Gold Nugget Triathlon, sharing a love of challenge and the outdoors that runs deep. Janet brings decades of engineering expertise, creative vision, and the pioneering spirit of Alaska to every project.
Born and raised in the shadow of the Chugach Mountains
Laura was born and raised on the Hillside, surrounded by the Chugach Mountains. She learned to snowboard at Hillside ski area, hiked those same peaks with her mother, and played soccer with her brothers for the Boys and Girls Club. Growing up in Alaska's wild landscape taught her resilience, creativity, and the courage to push boundaries.
Laura followed in her mother's footsteps, becoming an electrical engineer in her own right. But her passions extended beyond engineering—she also studied graphic arts and design, blending technical precision with creative vision. This unique combination allows her to create websites and designs that are both technically excellent and visually stunning.
The family tradition of excellence continues with Laura's husband, Nick, a Purple Heart Army Veteran who brings both service and scholarship to our team. An electrical engineer and Yale MBA, Nick shares our commitment to pushing boundaries and creating meaningful solutions.
Together, we've channeled our love of technology and innovation, fused it with abundant creativity, and created Otter and Daughter—a company that reflects our values of ingenuity, independence, and the pioneering spirit we've learned from the open and free Alaska we call home.
